A woman died of an apparent gunshot wound at a motel in Richmond on Monday morning.

At 8:44 a.m., officers responded to a call in the 6600 block of the Midlothian Turnpike following the report of a person shot. When authorities arrived, they located the woman inside a motel room and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. The Richmond Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide.
