WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump says he is considering “reclassifying” marijuana. While addressing reporters Monday, Trump said that while he’s thinking about the move, a decision is not likely anytime soon.

In particular, Trump is considering moving marijuana from a Schedule I controlled substance to a Schedule III drug. Reclassifying the drug would make it easier to buy and sell cannabis in the U.S.

If marijuana were to be reclassified, it would also lower the legal penalties associated with possession of the drug.

Although Trump acknowledged it is a “complicated subject” because of the damage marijuana can do to children, he also said that’s he’s “heard great things having to do with medical (marijuana).” Trump went on to say a decision could be made in the coming weeks.
