WASHINGTON — The Farmers’ Almanac has released its extended winter weather forecast for 2025–2026, and if the outlook turns out to be true, much of the U.S. could expect a season of “chill, snow, repeat.”

The 200-year-old publication says the cold and snow of winter may show up as early as September in parts of the country, long before the official start of the season on Dec. 21, 2025. A cold snap could also keep December holidays wrapped in chill temperatures.

According to the Almanac , the coldest temperatures will stretch from the Northern Plains to New England, with Northwestern regions like Idaho and Washington also facing frigid conditions.

Frequent snowstorms are expected across New England, while the Atlantic Coast could see plenty of wintry mixes of snow and rain.
