The timelessly popular Williamstown Fair had more repeat visits this year during a long, scorching weekend.
“It was so hot; so a lot of people had a hard time (staying longer),” said Jim McDonell, fair president of Canada’s oldest continuously held agricultural fair, the 214th. “By the middle of the afternoon, many left – but then they came back later at night when it was cooler.”
He noted that many of the fairgoers start arriving not long after activities begin early in the morning.
The split-shift appears to have dovetailed well with a fair board decision to expand its musical entertainment roster.
“We had something going on all the time,” said McDonell, adding that people looking for relief from the heat had many places on the fairgrounds to relax, like under large trees.
