Hurricane Henriette gained strength early today as it continued moving northwest well north of the Hawaiian Islands, forecasters said.
As of 5 a.m., the storm was about 525 miles north of Honolulu with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center. Henriette was moving northwest at 18 mph and is expected to turn toward the north-northwest at a slower speed by midweek. Additional strengthening is possible today before gradual weakening begins tonight.
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect, and Henriette is not expected to directly affect the islands. However, the National Weather Service said a lingering south swell is bringing advisory-level surf of 7 to 10 feet to south-facing shores statewide through this evening. The high surf advisory is
