Cornwall’s top U8 baseball players are laying the groundwork to eventually challenge Canada’s best Little Leaguers in 2029.
The Cornwall River Rats U8 rep team took third place on Sunday at their Cornwall Invitational Rookie Tournament.
“This Cornwall team is likely consisting of kids that are going to be playing in the 2029 national championship,” said president of Cornwall District Minor Baseball, Kyle Bergeron.
“The 12-and-under, it’s the big one,” said Bergeron of the tournament that would qualify Canada’s entry into the Little League World Series. “It’s going to be huge.”
Bergeron further emphasized the need to put together and develop the city’s top youth players.
