HAMPTON, Va. — A firefighter was injured and fifty cars were damaged in a fire that tore through a Hampton scrap yard, according to the Hampton Police Division.
Firefighters responded to the blaze on West Pembroke Avenue near Settlers Landing Road. A large plume of smoke could be seen in the area Monday afternoon near the Interstate 64 and I-664 interchange.
The firefighter was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and is expected to recover.
The Hampton Fire Division said every battalion was on the scene working to put the fire out. Chesapeake fire crews also assisted.
