NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man was sentenced for beating his dog with a baseball bat in 2018, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III.

57-year-old Gregory Ostiguy was sentenced to serve one year in the House of Correction, which was deemed served.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Ostiguy was previously convicted for the same charge in March of 2021 and sentenced to serve one year, but was given a new trial after the Court decided he had “not received a full explanation of his rights from the Court.”

On May 18, 2018, Dartmouth police responded to reports of a man beating a dog with a baseball bat in the area of Colonial and Slocum Roads.
