The City of Federal Way announced that it will host a cooling shelter at the Federal Way Community Center.

According to city, in preparation for the dangerous heat Aug. 12, the community center at 876 S. 333rd St. will act as a cooling shelter during normal hours of operations. The cooling shelter will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is free to use, but no pets are allowed.

“We are opening the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) as a cooling center during regular business hours Tuesday, Aug. 12, due to the expected dangerous levels of heat,” Mayor Jim Ferrell said. “Some weather forecasts are predicting a high of 93 degrees in our region on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The City of Federal Way is committed to ensuring the safety of our hard-working residents.”
