RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - From school zones to sidewalks, police are sounding the alarm on drivers and students who aren’t paying attention.

Lt. Shawn Kopelove with the Henrico Police Department says he’s seen it all, with people’s eyes anywhere but on the road.

“Electric skateboards. You’ve got the one-wheeled hoverboards,” he said.

He’s also seen children with their AirPods in not paying attention.

These distractions can be deadly.

“We had a Hermitage kid, year before last, walking back from work, crossing Staples Mill on a FaceTime video with his buddies. He walked out in front of a car,” Kopelove said.

Drivers are guilty of being distracted too, Kopelove says.
