Mounties say a man has been arrested and charges have been laid following a homicide that happened in Port Alberni’s Dry Creek Park.

Port Alberni RCMP officers arrested William Shane Watts on Aug. 7 “for the alleged homicide that occurred in Dry Creek Park on June 16…” reads a news release.

The following day, on Aug. 8, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved a murder charge against Watts, who remains in custody, according to RCMP.

Police are hoping anyone who witnessed the homicide will come forward.

“The Port Alberni RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) has conduct of the investigation and continues to seek witnesses and/or additional information related to this homicide,” reads the release, which was issued Monday.
