Family members bid farewell to HMCS Regina and HMCS Max Bernays as they departed from CFB Esquimalt Monday. The officers on board have been deployed to serve multiple weeks in operations based within the Arctic region.

For some family members, it is their first time having a loved one deployed, and they anticipate the change of pace it will bring to their day-to-day.

“It’s not something I’ve experienced before,” said the spouse of one of the deployed on HMCS Regina, Jenni Bateman.

“Knowing that somebody who you’re so accustomed to having in your day-to-day life, part of the family, isn’t going to be there for the next six weeks at least… it is a bit to wrap your head around.”
