A memorial was held in Comox on Sunday for a young mother and her five-month-old son who were killed by a falling tree at a Vancouver Island campground last month.

Their deaths have shaken the community. Sunday night, their family spoke for the first time since the tragedy.

“We’re in shock. We’re in grief. The community is in shock. There’s lots of why questions. Why, God, why? And to lots of those questions, we don’t know the answers,” said Ken Penner, uncle to Josh Wolchuk, who is husband and father to 26-year-old Lynae Wolchuk and her five-month-old baby Elias, who were killed by a falling tree while relaxing along Comox Lake on July 31.
