New wildfire south of Port Alberni

The BC Wildfire Service says a new, out of control wildfire is burning south of Port Alberni Monday night.

The fire is in an area near China Creek, with the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) saying shortly before 8 p.m., that the fire has grown to 50 hectares in size.

Many people in the area are reaching out to CHEK News, reporting large plumes of smoke being visible.

BCWS says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
