WASHINGTON — Hundreds of DC natives and residents rallied on Monday, just steps away from the White House, as President Trump announced that Attorney General Pam Bondi was taking charge of the Metropolitan Police Department .

The group, Free DC , was at the forefront of the protest, calling for the President to get out of the District.

"I think it’s really important to protect democracy," said a woman who only wanted to be identified as Jenny.

She told WUSA9 that both of her grandfathers fought in World War II.

"I’m here in their honor because I think they would be disgusted to see where our democracy is headed," Jenny explained.

Jenny felt compelled to protest because she wants to protect her future.

"I have grandchildren, and I don’t want them to grow up in a fascist country. I
