ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Sunday’s heavy rains caused flooding across St. Louis, shutting down eastbound lanes of I-70 in North City and damaging homes in multiple neighborhoods. MoDOT closed the interstate for several hours after water covered the roadway.
The flash flooding also reached a neighborhood near Tucker Ave. and 13th St., where Larry Smith and his neighbors spent the day cleaning up. Smith said the storm basin near their block overflowed.
“We’ve been here 39 years and this is the first time we’ve had any kind of major flooding,” he said.
Smith’s neighbor, Rashid Clark, said the water rose very quickly, damaging his vehicles and many of his belongings stored in his garage.
