JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - A teacher in Janesville reunited a family with lost letters and photos from over 110 years ago.

Ashley Ranum found the box of mementos during a dark time for her and her family.

“I actually Googled ‘what is something positive in the news today?’ and could not find anything,” she recalled.

Ranum recently lost her father-in-law as well as her family’s 19-year-old dog and is currently supporting two family members while they battle cancer.

The box of letters was found cleaning out Ashley’s father-in-law’s things, but the letters did not belong to him.

“I was like, ‘we have to find these people,’” she said.

The letters were accidentally taken when her father-in-law lived at an old rental property.
