VERMILION, Ohio (WJW) - The Vermilion Local School District is temporarily pausing bus services for high school students, officials confirmed on Monday night.

In a letter sent to families, the school district said its bus driver shortage that started during the COVID-19 pandemic has become even worse in recent months.

According to the letter, a bus mechanic left in the spring and a driver retired at the end of last school year.

This past week, another driver resigned and another developed a medical issue "that is going to prevent that driver from driving indefinitely," the district said.

"We cannot consolidate any additional routes because our buses are full due to the prior consolidations," the letter continued.
