KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A new federal rule proposed Tuesday would make it easier for companies to use drones over longer distances out of the operator's sight without having to go through a cumbersome waiver process.

Evan Turner, the owner of hobby drone manufacturer Five33, said he supports the decision.

"So people may say, 'Oh, it's going to become more dangerous.' However, I think they're more so just making a roadmap for drones to be integrated here into the sky," Turner said.

He said his company can produce several hundred drones designed for racing every month. They can fly up to 100 mph and can be held in one hand. He said his rate of production rivals larger companies in the U.S. He loves that as a pitch for his company, but doesn't want that to remain true for much longer.
