OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — A local nonprofit program aimed at helping families with disabilities gave one mother and her five children a life-changing fresh start this week.
The Hands Up To Succeed program better known as HUTS celebrated a major milestone in Owensboro, handing over the keys to its 91st home since its launch in 2016.
Danielle Aull, a survivor of domestic violence, was greeted with cheers and tears Monday as she walked into her new home alongside her sons.
“1…2…3… Welcome home!” shouted supporters as the family stepped inside.
After months of living in a shelter, Aull said this new beginning came at the perfect time.
“I just look at it as a mountain I’ve had to climb — and just keep climbing,” Aull said. “It felt like the end, but this is a new start.”
