OMAHA, Neb. —

After mosquitoes in Dodge County were found to carry West Nile virus last week, we now know of two mosquito samples that tested positive for West Nile near the Omaha metro.

"Last year, we had one positive mosquito pool in our jurisdiction, and that was in September," said Terra Uhing, executive director of the Three Rivers Public Health Department, which covers Dodge, Saunders and Washington counties.

This year, the local health department's first positive test sample was in late July in Washington County.

"I believe that they're likely probably circulating in a way bigger area," Uhing said.

There have been seven West Nile virus reported cases in humans in Nebraska so far this year.
