RAPID CITY, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -The basketball community lost a good friend late last week.

Former Huron University head coach Fred Paulsen died very unexpectedly last Thursday.

His funeral is tomorrow back in Coloma, Michigan where Fred is from.

Fred coached some great college teams in Huron, but his most memorable time spent on the bench came at Custer where he helped Larry Luitjens, with his sons Derek and Paige on the team.

I recently had Fred on Calling All Sports after Larry died talking about the impact the South Dakota legend had on his life.

Rest in Peace Friend.

Fred was 71 years old.
