HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui County is inviting wildfire survivors to apply for federal funding to help build or buy a new home.
The county is ready to begin distributing $1.6 billion through an initiative called “Hookumu Hou.”
Newly named Hookumu Hou focuses on housing initiatives intended to help wildfire survivors receive the means they need to stay, or return, home.
Applications are now open for three relief programs, single-family home reconstruction, single-family home reimbursement and financial help for first-time homebuyers.
Each program will require residents to submit documentation that may include government ID, proof of citizenship/legal residence, income verification, home ownership and mortgage documentation, and documentation of assistance received to date.
