HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Washington Middle School in Moiliili got a special treat thanks to one of its distinguished alums.

Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro partnered with the Good Tidings Foundation to reimagine the band room at his old middle school.

Bridgette Harper, the foundation’s executive director, said, “We wanted to do a project here on the islands, and Jake said, ‘I’d love to renovate my old middle school band room.’”

They were introduced by Shimabukuro’s good friend, Jason Mraz.

Shimabukuro said, “This campus was truly a turning point in my life. You know, when I was a student here as seventh grader, I felt I came in not really knowing who I was or what I wanted to do with my life or where I wanted to go.”
