MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A police shooting that shut down a section of U.S. 60 for several hours on Sunday, during one of the busiest parts of the day for travel, was started after an alleged attempted kidnapping according to the Mesa Police Department, and it highlights a disturbing trend of domestic violence.

“Caller said that the male kicked in the door, grabbed a kitchen knife and attempted to force a female victim into a vehicle,” said Mesa Police Det. John Dreyer during a Sunday night press conference.

Mesa police have not identified the 37-year-old man, but did say he had some sort of domestic relationship with the victim.
