TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
Ty Simpson has been named the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, according to ESPN sources .
Simpson won the job over redshirt sophomore Austin Mack and freshman Keelon Russell in a competition to replace Jalen Milroe.
This will be Simpson’s fourth season in Tuscaloosa.
His most notable moment came in 2023, when he led the Tide to a win over South Florida. Milroe was benched for the game, and Simpson entered in the second half to relieve a struggling Tyler Buchner.
Last season, Simpson attempted just 25 passes for 167 yards. Over his three seasons at Alabama, he has yet to throw a touchdown pass.
The Crimson Tide will open the 2025 season on Aug. 30, at Florida State.
