A transgender woman who lives in Scranton, Pa. has filed a federal lawsuit against her health insurer for allegedly failing to reimburse her for facial feminization procedures she received.
The woman is identified in court papers as “Michael Doe.” Her given name is being used in her pseudonym because she hasn’t legally changed it, according to her 59-page lawsuit.
Last month, Doe filed suit against Geisinger Health Plan and related entities for allegedly failing to cover her medically necessary facial-feminization procedures.
Geisinger Health Plan is based in Danville, Pa.
Doe’s lawsuit seeks more than $150,000 in damages and reforms within Geisinger to ensure that other trans persons with gender dysphoria who request facial feminization procedures will be covered.
