Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for parts of New Jersey starting Wednesday night as heat and humidity continue to surge.

Northern New Jersey — mainly in and around Newark — will officially enter a heat wave on Tuesday, as temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher for the third consecutive day.

Forecasters predict another hot and humid day with widespread temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90s and no chance of rain.

The heat index — how hot it feels — is expected to reach the low 90s this afternoon.

Highs in Newark are expected to reach 92 on Tuesday, 90 on Wednesday and 91 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
