A group of 13 people who were allegedly part of a transnational elder fraud ring based in the Dominican Republic has been dismantled by authorities, and charges against them are expected to be announced Tuesday.

According to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office, the group "tricked seniors into handing over life savings by pretending to be a grandchild in distress". Authorities said "hundreds of seniors, most of whom are from Massachusetts, were scammed out of millions of dollars".

The U.S. Attorney’s Office will hold a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. where more details are expected to be revealed.
