MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WBTV) - Wild dashcam video shared by police in South Carolina showed a lightning strike create a massive fireball on Monday morning.

The video by the Mount Pleasant Police Department on Aug. 11, and showed the strike hit a power line amid heavy rain.

When the lightning bolt hit the Dominion Energy lines, the large fireball ignited in the sky above busy Highway 17. The strike sent shockwaves down the lines as an eerie blue glow and a shower of sparks were emitted on the other side of the road.

“A bit too much excitement for a Monday!” the police department wrote on social media.

By Tuesday morning, the video had been watched more than 6.5 million times and had thousands of reactions.
