Fewer than one in ten people survive when they go into cardiac arrest outside of hospital in the West Midlands - but a cash boot could help improve those odds.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has been awarded a £141,970 grant to help improve survival rates for life-threatening emergencies, such as out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
Currently, fewer than one in ten people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital will return home to their families, WMAS said.

Chances of survival can increase drastically to more than five in ten if a cardiac arrest is identified quickly and CPR and defibrillation is carried out.
