Belleville rolled out the red carpet for its longstanding friends from twin city Lahr, Germany on Monday to kick off a week-long cultural exchange tour of the city and region.

Mayor Neil Ellis welcomed Lahr Oberburgermeister Markus Ibert , Lahr councillors and residents to the city during council session by presenting a map of the city forged in metal.

Mayor Ibert responded in kind, presenting Belleville with a metal art form reflecting the colours of his home city.

The German delegation of 29 delegates flew into Canada Sunday and were expected to tour sites in Belleville, Prince Edward County and Kingston before leaving for home.
