LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Lafayette man has been arrested in connection with a shooting on N. Loop Street Monday, authorities said.

Christian Simmons, 29, of Lafayette is charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.

Lafayette Police responded at approximately 4:19 a.m. Monday to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of N. Loop Street.

The victim told officers that he had gone to a residence in the 200 block of Dewey Street where he was confronted by a man the victim identified as Simmons. According to the victim, Simmons told him to leave and as he was running away, Simmons shot the victim. The victim then made his way to N. Loop St., where he contacted police.
