KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County Health Department said it found West Nile Virus in mosquitoes in North Knoxville recently .
On Thursday, the county will start mosquito control spraying in the area of Davanna Street and Central Avenue.
The spraying will take place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 14, weather permitting, according to the KCHD's release. During this period of time, people are asked to keep themselves and their pets inside or move their pets to the backyard.
West Nile is transmitted when an infected mosquito bites someone, and most people do not get symptoms, but those who do typically experience fever, headaches, rash or body aches, according to KCHD.
Older adults with weakened immune systems can develop severe illness from West Nile Virus, but it's rare, KCHD said.
