PORTLAND, Ore. — Santiago Moreno is leaving the Portland Timbers after four seasons, with a transfer to Brazilian club Fluminense FC, the team announced Tuesday.
Moreno, 25, was transferred to the Série A club for an undisclosed fee.
The midfielder had an unexcused absence during the Timbers’ final group-stage match of the 2025 Leagues Cup against Club América. At the time, the club told ESPN the absence would likely lead to disciplinary action.
The absence came amid a transfer bid from Fluminense, which Portland initially rejected, reportedly because it did not meet the club’s valuation. A source told ESPN the Timbers would reconsider if a better offer came in. According to the report, Moreno skipped the match in an effort to force the move and later returned to his native Colombia
