A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 280 in San Jose early Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 2:45 a.m., a Toyota Corolla was going about 65 mph traveling southbound on I-280, approaching Highway 87, when for an undetermined reason, a female pedestrian walked into the lanes of traffic. The woman walked into the path of the Toyota, which struck her with the left front of the vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was not injured.

The woman suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at 3:26 a.m., according to CHP.

This is an ongoing investigation and the CHP is asking for witnesses or anyone with information regarding this crash to contact the San Jose CHP Area Office
