LEBANON, Ore. - The Lebanon Fire District is celebrating the retirement of Battalion Chief Ken Savage, marking the end of nearly 38 years of dedicated service to the community.

Savage began his firefighting career in September 1987, inspired by a friend's invitation to join as a volunteer.

"Once I got started in the intern role, I was hooked," he said. "The ability to help people at their worst moment was the inspiration that kept me coming back."

Throughout his career, Savage held various roles, including volunteer firefighter, full-time firefighter, and Battalion Chief. He was involved in technical rescue teams, fire investigation, and served as an SCBA technician. He also held leadership roles as an E-Board member and president of Local 2163.
