CANTON ‒ A 76-year-old inmate at the Stark County Jail died Aug. 12 after an apparent cardiac arrest, the Stark County Sheriff's Office said.

A news release from the agency said the woman, who had been incarcerated since June 14, had a history of health issues.

Following a scheduled court appearance on the morning of Aug. 12, she reported feeling unwell and was taken to the jail’s medical clinic for evaluation and care.

While being attended to by clinic staff, she appeared to suffer cardiac arrest, the agency said.

Clinic and jail staff immediately initiated life-saving measures and continued resuscitation efforts until personnel from the Canton City Department arrived and assumed care, the press release said.
