Part of the Yukon’s Kluane National Park including a section of the Cottonwood Trail has been closed due to a boldly-behaved grizzly bear in the area, according to a bulletin posted to the Parks Canada website.
The trailhead is located between the campground road and Kathleen Lake. The trail closure begins a couple of kilometres in, at the junction with the King’s Throne Trail up to Lower Victoria Creek at kilometre 67.
People caught violating the relevant section of the Canada National Parks Act could be fined up to $25,000.
The area closure was approved by John Haselmeyer, the Yukon field unit superintendent.
The closure takes effect Aug. 11 and stays in effect until further notice, per the bulletin.
