A Homestead woman accused of driving with her child in her lap was arrested on charges of child abuse and endangerment Friday night.

A witness told Maricopa Police Department they saw Alexiss Boyston, 30, speeding down John Wayne Parkway in a silver Nissan sedan with an unrestrained infant in her lap, while also using her phone.

Officers called the witness, who said she was stopped on southbound John Wayne Parkway at Honeycutt Road trying to turn left when the Nissan pulled up to the turn lane next to her.

She told police Boyston “had a small child in the lap” and that the child was “crawling all over the steering wheel while the female was looking at her phone,” according to the probable cause statement.
