A burning vehicle on the Bonnet Carre Spillway was already causing traffic backups early Tuesday afternoon, ahead of rush hour.

A vehicle caught fire the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, closing one of the lanes Tuesday afternoon, according to the Louisiana Department of Development and Transportation.

The burning vehicle was reported in Interstate 10's eastbound lanes near mile marker 216 at around 2:40 p.m., the DOTD said.

The right lane remained blocked as of 3:27 p.m.

No additional details on the fire or possible injuries were immediately available.
