Despite immense pressure from the Arkansas anti-wind movement, Searcy County became the first to reject a moratorium on wind energy construction at a county meeting Monday night.

Instead, county officials (called justices of the peace) passed an emergency ordinance reiterating that all wind facilities in Searcy County must comply with a restrictive new state law, and that developers must file evidence of their wind energy projects with the county clerk within 30 days.

The Searcy County ordinance requires developers to follow the new Wind Energy Development Act, which passed with bipartisan support earlier this year after being muscled through by Senate President Bart Hester (R- Cave Springs) and groups organized to oppose the proliferation of renewable energy projects in Arkansas.
