GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A special election has been set to vote for a new Upstate senator after Roger Nutt announced his resignation on Monday.
The Upstate senator for District 12, representing parts of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties, said he was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Upstate House member Bobby Cox, who also represents Greenville County, also announced that he is resigning from his seat to run for the now-open spot in the Senate.
Candidates who want to run for the two seats can file between Aug. 29 and Sep. 6.
The primary is set to take place in October, and the runoff will be in November if necessary.
The special election is then set for December 23.
