LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — The city of Lancaster has settled a lawsuit with a woman who says she was racially profiled and wrongfully arrested at her home in August 2020.
Anaysheon Coffey, the woman who filed the federal lawsuit against the city and the Lancaster Police Department, settled for $120,000, according to a statement from her attorney.
Coffey's lawsuit was first filed in 2023, almost three years after she says a Lancaster police officer illegally searched her home and placed her under arrest.
On Aug. 25, 2020, an officer knocked on Coffey's door and asked if her child's father was there. The officer then asked if he could come inside the home, which Coffey refused to allow him to do so without a warrant. The officer then forced himself in and searched the home.
