UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about scammers impersonating law enforcement officers in phone calls that have targeted the community for at least two years.
The scam involves callers claiming to be deputies from the sheriff's department who tell victims they have outstanding bench warrants for missing grand jury duty, according to a recent incident report. The fraudulent callers demand immediate payment to avoid arrest.
