CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — A 44-year-old Mount Clare felon could be looking at five or more years of incarceration after he was convicted of felony malicious assault and misdemeanor brandishing.

Harrison Chief Judge Christopher J. McCarthy ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for 2 p.m. Sept. 23 for Eric Michael Cottrill, who was acquitted of felony attempted burglary and misdemeanor battery.

Cottrill will remain jailed pending sentencing. He has been there for about a year and a half, and will receive credit for that.

Assistant Prosecutor Gina Renzelli has said she will seek a repeat felon sentencing enhancement that would increase Cottrill's potential prison time by two years.
