MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- President Trump's decision to federalize police in Washington, D.C. and deploy National Guard troops to the city is the right move to bring safety back to the streets, U.S. Rep. Russell Fry said Tuesday.
"People don't feel safe in Washington, D.C. When constituents travel there, when tourists travel there, they often don't feel safe. Even in areas that you do not expect," Fry told reporters during a veterans event at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
Under the Home Rule Act, Trump can temporarily take control of the District’s police department if he determines “special conditions of an emergency nature exist.” The president announced Monday he was declaring a public safety emergency in the District.
Trump also has the authority to activate the D.C. Nation
