REMBERT — One of the Lowcountry residents whose bodies were found in rural Sumter County on Aug. 8 was shot to death, Coroner Robbie Baker said at a news conference on Aug. 12.
A landowner came across the bodies of Christine Marie McAbee, 35, of North Charleston and Kristen Grissom, 38, of Walterboro in a wooded area off Richbow Road in the Rembert area, Coroner Robbie Baker confirmed previously. Rembert is an unincorporated community more than 100 miles from Charleston that is home to about 240 people, according to the U.S. Census.
At an Aug. 12 afternoon news conference, Baker said McAbee died from a gunshot wound. Grissom’s cause of death was still pending the completion of an autopsy set for the same day at the Medical University of South Carolina in downtown Charleston.
