Two recently arrested campaign workers were paid thousands of dollars each by Mayor Joe Ganim’s campaign while engaging in an effort to register people to vote by absentee ballots, according to documents obtained by NBC Connecticut.

The court documents also state the workers, Elsie Mercado and Silvia Ramos, misrepresented the eligibility requirements for an absentee ballot.

Mercado and Ramos were among four people arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday. They, along with Robert Anderson and Maria Hernandez, were arrested on July 30.

According to the court documents, Mercado, Ramos and Anderson worked for Ganim’s 2023 re-election campaign, while Hernandez worked for Democratic challenger John Gomes.
