John Eustace was full of praise for Derby County's spirit as they sealed their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup with a penalty shootout win against West Brom.

Derby had looked to be going out of the competition after Aune Heggebo has given the Baggies a second-half lead.

In what was a much-changed Derby team , with Eustace making nine changes from the defeat at Stoke, the Rams kept plugging away with Lennon Wheeldon heading wide.

And in stoppage time their persistence paid off when Joe Ward struck a terrific free-kick to send the game to penalties.

Vickers then produced two fantastic saves in the shootout to deny Jed Wallace and Karlan Grant as Derby secured a 3-2 victory.
